Tell us about your experience with our site. ThomasReynolds93 Created on January 18, So I am a digital artist and I am used to the Wacom pen since it is what I have been using for years. I was very excited to hear that the Wacom bamboo ink was a dual protocol and would work with the surface book 2 which I just purchased.

I downloaded all the drivers and did everything I thought was required. I then contacted Wacom support to be told that there is only support for the 13 inch model of the surface book 2 and not the 15 inch.

This doesn't really make any sense to me at all considering a 15 inch tablet makes more sense for a Wacom pen then a 13 inch tablet. I know the Surface book 2 is pretty new so I was wondering if there is going to be an update for support of the bamboo pen or If I should just return it to the store.

I also don't know why your employees at the store I purchased both the surface book 2 and pen were not informed of this. The surface pen is ok which I also have, but its better for note taking then digital art since it has a few kinks that I personally would like to see worked out. This thread is locked.

This stylus is 5. We found it it quite comfortable to hold, and easy to grip, even for long periods. The top button is used as an application launcher. One, two, or three quick presses can open the Windows Ink Workspace, Sticky Notes, the sketchpad, screen sketch, or other apps. The Bamboo Ink supports hover on our test Surface Pro, so just putting the nib near something on screen and tapping the button opens the options menu. Wacom includes three alternate nibs with this product: one hard, one medium, and one soft.

A second medium nib comes pre-installed in the stylus. Even this is just 1. But the case has one more trick: on one edge is a hole lined with metal: to remove a nib from the Bamboo Ink, insert it into this hole, turn the stylus to bind the pen between two of the sides, then pull gently.

When using a fingertip or capacitive stylus, the touchscreen alone can tell the location of contact. Active pens need to communicate much more than this, especially how hard the nib is touching the display. Plus, switching between the two only requires a combination of presses on the side button, so this pen can be easily shared by multiple devices.

Like most current active pens, this accessory needs to be paired with the computer over Bluetooth. This is used to tell the tablet about presses on the top and side buttons.

The following comments should be taken with an important consideration: no one on our staff is an artist. As discussed, Wacom includes three nibs, hard, medium, and soft. The softer the nib, the more using this active pen feels like writing on paper. The drawback is that they wear out more quickly. Harder nibs last longer. It could be as low as or as high as The Surface Pro 4 responded to even light touches of the Bamboo Ink.

If the Bamboo Ink has tilt detection, we were unable to see any sign of it. This is unfortunate, as it makes creating art with the device much more challenging. We found the Bamboo Ink to be easier and more comfortable to hold than any version of the Surface Pen, but thought them otherwise nearly identical when being used for taking notes or sketching. Its rival pressure-sensitive styli also require batteries to work. The one that comes with this accessory is still going strong at the end of all our tests.

Artists looking for a creative tool are almost certainly going to miss tilt detection, and will probably want more levels of pressure sensitivity. Pros Very comfortable to hold and use Compatible with a wide variety of tablets and 2-in-1s Cons Probably just levels of pressure sensitivity No tilt detection.

My original intention had always been to buy the Surface along with the Surface Pen, but supply issues at the Microsoft store forced me to go with the Bamboo Ink — an accessory that had been launched by the Japanese stylus specialist just a month earlier.

Well, I finally managed to buy a Surface Pen a week ago, and have been working extensively with it over the past 8 days. When I first started drawing with the Surface Pro and the Bamboo Ink four weeks ago, I was initially stunned by how … well, crappy it felt.

I gradually learned how to slow down and work within the limitations of the Wacom, but I was bothered by the fact that I already owned a device that could genuinely keep up with my pace … and it was two years older, to boot. And thankfully, it was. Everything from the setup experience to the day-to-day handling was just better. To get started with the Pen, all you have to do is press it against the screen of the Surface Pro for 10 seconds.

No Bluetooth pairing necessary. It also felt very balanced in hand, although the Bamboo Ink never really had any issues in that department. The biggest physical difference between the two styli is that the Bamboo Ink is perfectly cylindrical, while the Surface Pen is flat on its magnetic side.

But all of that other stuff is nowhere near as important as this: the Pen renders a genuinely better line than the Bamboo Ink. I found that this difference manifested in two key ways:. I am disappointed with the surface pro as there is a paralex error between where the end of the line is and the pen tip. If you are right handed, then screen position is hidden off center behind the stylus meets the screen.

This makes it guess work when trying to restart a line to the end of the previous drawing. I am using the artrage drawing program.

Like Like. You can calibrate the pen inpute to get rid of the parallax error. Just search for calibrate, and a control panel entry will come up.

One thing that should probably be mentioned is that you say you have a surface pro but you dont say whats in it. You are commenting using your WordPress. You are commenting using your Google account. You are commenting using your Twitter account. You are commenting using your Facebook account.
